The Digital Bearing Compass augmented reality app offers a practical tool for aiming at objects to obtain both true and magnetic bearings which can then be cross-referenced on a map. Within the app, you have the ability to set a fixed point on the map, calculate the distance and bearing to said point, and view the angle deviation between your current heading and the fixed position using augmented reality technology.

Starting from version 3.x, users can mark their current location directly on the map with the distance and bearing to this location clearly displayed. By taking bearings from two points or by using a fix, you can measure angles and streamline your navigation process - reminiscent of a sextant's functionality in marine settings. This advanced application of trigonometry allows users to determine the size of distant objects or apply cross-bearing methods efficiently, with all measurements automatically saved for future reference.

The key features of this app include utilizing high-tech sensors to measure orientation, device position, and declination (variation between Geographic North and Magnetic North). It leverages augmented reality technology, introduced with iOS 11, promising continuous enhancements and the addition of new functionalities in subsequent updates. Users can seamlessly switch between camera and map modes while benefitting from various measurement options, including distance unit preferences, coordinate format selections, day/night mode capabilities, and clear cardinal directions displayed in the camera view.
